25 May, 2017

AGREA has been awarded and certified by the Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) Regional Training Center MIMAROPA as an Organic Agriculture Learning Site for vegetable, high-value crops, and organic chicken production.

The AGREA Model Farm was inspected and validated on 26 April 2017 by a team composed of representatives from the ATI IV-B MIMAROPA, headed by Mr. Andrew B. Barrientos, Training Center Superintendent II.

According to ATI guidelines, to qualify as a Learning Site, the farmer should be a successful/model farmer who is willing to act as resource person/trainer and make the farm a demonstration area or a hands-on learning site. Also, the farmer should have the potential of becoming a farmer extensionist and should be physically and mentally fit. Likewise, the farmer’s farm should be accessible to transportation and should have at least the basic training facilities like a “holding area” (any structure where briefings/lectures can be made) and a comfort room.

The AGREA Model Farm holds skills training on Saturdays. It has a 250sqm functional vermicomposting facility, an area for organic fertilizer and pesticide production, greenhouses, elevated plant beds, seedling area, nursery, organic chicken coup, a training facility, four resident farmworkers, and agriculturists.
